Based on a True Review is part of an ongoing animated series created by Airbnb to bring real guest experiences to life through artful storytelling. Each short film in the series transforms a written review into a poignant narrative, capturing the emotional resonance of travel and the human connections it sparks.

For this installment, Airbnb collaborated with illustrator Brian Rea and director Pablo Delcan of Delcan & Company to craft a visually minimal yet emotionally rich animation. Guided by David Charles as Creative Director and produced by Aimée Hunt, the piece blends Rea’s signature line-drawing style with Delcan’s thoughtful pacing and animation. An evocative audio track by Wesley Slover adds depth and atmosphere, resulting in a short film that is as reflective and sincere as the reviews that inspire it.
